Additional Advice:
- Review your degree audit regularly. This is your academic profile, and a significant guidepost. You are solely responsible for understanding your progress and your requirements.
- Make sure to check your Binghamton email on daily basis.
- Routinely check the mailing address you have on file in the Registrar’s Office. Harpur Advising will send you information from time to time.
- Meet with your instructor early if you have difficulty in a course. If necessary, use campus support services for personal or academic assistance.
- You are encouraged to review your requirements and meet often with an advisor. This includes meeting with advisors to consider and implement planning prior to registration time. Many of your advising questions, including degree planning and major questions can and should be addressed over a sustained advising period. Sustained, collaborative advising allows us to more thoroughly help you reach your goals, and more thoroughly understand your needs.
- While we are here to answer your questions, we encourage you to work more collaboratively with us. We understand there are few simple questions given the variability and complexity of a college degree. Please see us regularly to help you explore the totality of your concerns and your degree plan.
- High volume walkin-in advising (during registration periods) is reserved for immediate schedule-related and course based questions. Please make appointments for issues or questions that cannot be answered in a short timeframe. Larger questions concerning major choice or academic difficulty should be addressed in an appointment, where you have more opportunity and time to thoroughly explore your options.
- While we are here to assist you with your academic or policy issues, many of these can be avoided or otherwise eased through regular consultation. If you experience problems, fail to understand a requirement, or misjudge an academic policy, the advising office cannot waive these requirements. Your requirements are in force from your first registration. Please be aware of them, and work collaboratively with an advisor to help you reach your goals. Please consult with us regularly, and ask thorough questions so we can fully understand your needs.
