Transfer Policies

Many students will bring courses from other institutions with them to Harpur College. This page will help you understand how courses are transferred and equated.

NEW STUDENTS: Because of high volume and the need to coordinate records with your transferring institution, your complete transfer record on BUSI may not be complete until mid-fall. You do not need to take further action to have your courses equated. This is a normal condition, which does not indicate that courses have not been accepted or transferred to Binghamton University.

If you are wondering how a specific course is transferred, you are advised to view our June 11, 2008es">transfer table FIRST, which will show you our existing course equivalencies. If your course is listed here, you will receive the credit and/or course equivalency listed.

Liberal arts courses from accredited institutions with a grade of C- or better will transfer. You are advised to check with your major department to see how they apply toward your major. Courses with a grade of "P" (Pass) may transfer, although you generally need to take courses for a letter grade to count them toward a major. General Education courses must be taken for a letter grade.

The amount of semester credit earned at the host college is the amount of credit you are awarded at Binghamton University. However, a three-credit course from another school can fulfill a Binghamton four-credit course requirement. Credits from schools on the quarter system are adjusted to equate to semester credit, e.g., three quarter system credits are equal to two semester credits.
